A Bed of Roses Moves

Valerie Richardson says she's had lots of people tell her they've driven past her shop, A Bed of Roses Florist and Gift Shop, hundreds of times but never stopped in. The busy but narrow part of Portage Trail is not an ideal location for a retail business.

To resolve that problem, she moved A Bed of Roses to its new home at 1907 State Rd. over the Memorial Day weekend. The shop is open and Richardson is continuing to prepare the second floor for more shop space and a wedding consultation business. The first floor is just about finished. 

She's also having work done on the exterior to brighten up its appearance, including adding a deck in the front. 

"Summer's always slow, so it's hard to tell" if the move has affected her business one way or the other, Richardson said. 

She'll know when the holidays roll around, and especially by next Mother's Day, the biggest day of the year for florists.
