Local rock group Elipsus wins YMCA Battle of Bands in Falls

Teen band Elipsus of Cuyahoga Falls rocked their way to first place Saturday, March 2, during the Akron Area YMCA Battle of the Bands held at Cuyahoga Falls High School to benefit the Partners With Youth Annual Giving Campaign. The annual event β€’ in its fourth year β€’ includes bands of all ages and styles.

The power trio band is made up of singer, guitarist Tyler Hawes, 17, and drummer Mason Hawes, 14, brothers and students from Firestone High School, along with bass player and long-time friend Max Morganti, 18, student of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. The trio won 10 hours at a recording studio as part of their prize package. Elipsus played three originals during the competition.

The band has been performing together for the past four years and opened for Led Zeppelin tribute band Zoso at the Akron Civic Theatre on Feb. 9, as their prize for placing first at StoneStock 2012, a fundraiser for the Friends of Firestone Visual and Performing Arts held in December.
