Summa Western Reserve Hospital’s Center for Pain Medicine Chairman, Dr. Samer Narouze was published in Atlas of Ultrasound-Guided Procedures in Interventional Pain Management; the first book of its kind devoted to the newly emerging field of ultrasound-guided pain medicine (USPM). Not only is Dr. Narouze featured in several chapters of the book, but he is credited with editing the piece. The book released on December 30, 2010 through Springer Science and Business Media, a leader in authoritative research publications with more than 165 years of service and more than 150 Nobel prize-winners to its credit.
Aimed at physicians who are pioneering the use of ultrasound-guided procedures to manage acute and chronic pain, the book offers a step-by-step guide from the world’s leading pain specialists. The practice of using ultrasound-guided techniques has proven a less invasive, less costly procedure over more involved methods through x-rays. The 356-page book features 465 helpful figures, 350 of which are in full color, and proves beneficial for pain physicians, anesthesiologists, physiatrists, rheumatologists, neurologists, orthopedists, sports medicine physicians, spine specialists, and interventional radiologists.

Dr. Samer Narouze was named one of America’s Top Pain Medicine Physicians in 2007 by Consumers’ Research Council of America. He specializes in treating pain and chronic headaches that don’t respond to pain medicines — a practice that has drawn patients from across the country. He has pioneered the use of ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, which allow for a safer injection without radiation. Before heading up Summa Western Reserve Hospital’s Center for Pain Medicine, Narouze served as Program Director of Cleveland Clinic’s Pain Medicine Fellowship program. He is board-certified in pain medicine, interventional pain management, headache medicine, and anesthesiology. Dr. Narouze’s research is widely published, and he serves as a visiting professor both nationally and abroad.
