Bicentennial Weekend at Falls River Square

With the Bicentennial Ball a success, the city of Cuyahoga Falls kicks off the bicentennial celebration publicly at the Frozen River Festival, Jan 21. and 22.

Held at , the two-day festivities are from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. With event admission and parking free, families can relax and celebrate the weekend on a budget.

"There  is  so much momentum behind this event," said Mayor Don Robart in a press release. "The Bicentennial Committee has been meeting and planning these events since spring of 2011."

Cuyahoga Falls will team up with multiple groups for the celebratory weekend including nearby universities, Thirsty Dog Brewery and .

University of Akron Garde Manger Club members will carve ice and showcase ice sculptures. Take a seat on the large 6-foot "Ice Throne" for a fun photo opportunity, said Jennifer Syx, deputy director of development.

Saturday at 3 p.m., Kent State University students will figure skate a 20-minute show on the ice rink. The public skates at normal rates—free for residents with CFOne Card, $3 non-resident with skate rental at $3, according to a press release.

Inside the pavilion, snacks and hot drinks will be served. Sarah's Vineyard has plans for a variety of wine tastings at a small cost with limited edition wine glasses marking the bicentennial.

Thirsty Dog Brewery will join the fun by offering This Olde Ale—a bicentennial-exclusive brew. After sampling, purchases can be made on tap or in a 6-pack at Cashmere Cricket and grocery stores at a later date, Syx said.
