CFLBT JV Black Secures 2nd Seed, Playoff Bound for First Time Ever

The Cuyahoga Falls Little Black Tigers JV Black team capped off their regular season with a 35-0 shutout of the Copley Gold Junior Varsity Team. The win improved the Black Tigers to a 6-2 record.

This team of 19 kids and 4 coaches has played their hearts out in every game this season, making the playoffs for their first time ever. Each game was important and showed the boys what teamwork and good coaching can achieve. Specifically exciting for the team was the win over Mogadore JV on 10/6 in double overtime and then shutting out Stow’s Maroon JV two times this season while also shutting out Stow’s Gold JV one time. The wins over Stow were the first time this group have beaten a Stow team – with some of these boys on their 5th year of playing for CFLBT.

The win on 10/13 against Copley Gold – needed to secure the 2nd seed position – included key plays by every player on this team. Securing this 2nd seed position gave the team a first round bye so their first playoff game will be Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Ross Park in Cuyahoga Falls. The Black Tigers got on the board on their first possession after Tre’ Belton broke free on a 42-yard sweep. Kirk Louis ran up the middle for the point after. In the second quarter, Joe Michalwicz scored on a 1 yard plunge, the Point After attempt was a successful pass from Tyler Vassalotti to Tre’ Belton. The Tigers increased their lead to 21-0 after a 5 yard run by Kirk Louis, Vassalotti and Belton hooked up again for the Point After. After a fumble recovery by Noah Kirkland at the Copley 35 yard line, Kirk Louis broke free on the next play evading several would be tacklers for his second touchdown of the day and ran in the point after attempt to make the half time score 28-0. Daywan Sommerville closed out the scoring for the Falls on a 1-yard run in the third quarter; the point after attempt was converted by Logan Myer.
