Summa Western Reserve Hospital To Celebrate Dr. King Legacy Jan. 16

will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s enduring legacy with a special presentation on Monday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at the hospital’s Auditorium II located at 1900 23rd St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The free event is open to the public. The event will feature Rev. Carl Wallace of Trinity United Church of Christ.

Special guest Rev. Carl P. Wallace of Trinity United Church of Christ  in Akron, Ohio will address guests to discuss how Dr. Martin Luther King’s teachings have come to fruition in today’s society and continue to carry over from generation to generation. There will also be a reading of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream,” a speech delivered Aug. 28, 1963 in Washington D.C. when King called for an end to discrimination and a beginning of racial equality.

Summa Western Reserve and Trinity have begun to collaborate to foster ways to unify the community and promote healthier minds, bodies and spirits. Both feel the January 16th event will do just that.

“One of the innumerable legacies of Dr. King lives on in his addressing the most segregated time in United States history,” says Rev. Wallace.  “Trinity United Church of Christ is the embodiment of Dr. King’s legacy. For the hospital to afford us the opportunity to share this story through our community partnership is a blessing.”

Reverend Wallace is the senior minister at Trinity. Dr. Wallace formerly served as Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Cleveland before coming to Akron. He served as Pastor of the Union Congregational Church in Painesville, Ohio, and was the Executive Officer of Equal Opportunity Affairs for the Cleveland Public Schools. Dr. Wallace also created and implemented voter education and enrichment programs in the community through his work in the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. He earned a B.A. degree from Tufts University, a Master of Divinity degree from Ashland Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
