Calling All Volunteers for 2012 Cuyahoga River Cleanup

Ready to get your hands dirty for a good, clean cause?

On Saturday, Sept. 29,  is partnering with Crooked River Adventures -- a division of the Department of Recreational Services at  -- for the 2012 Cuyahoga River cleanup.

The annual beautification project will focus on the Cuyahoga River between in Kent and in the Falls. The event is part of the American Rivers’ National River Cleanup, a series of nationwide, community-based river and stream cleanups.

According to cityofcf.com, the popular project raises awareness about the need for healthy rivers and provides the opportunity for citizen involvement.

Volunteers are needed in kayaks, canoes and on foot to help collect trash. Area residents interested in helping in a kayak or canoe should contact the KSU Department of Recreational Services at 330-672-4732 by Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Those interested in cleaning up litter on foot along the river or along stream banks, and in helping unload canoes and kayaks as they arrive at Water Works Park, should call the City of Cuyahoga Falls at 330-971-8201, or email Becky McCleary at mcclearyrm@cityofcf.com by Wednesday, Sept. 26.

In 2011 alone, event participants collected over five tons of trash from the river.

A pre-trip meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in Seminar Room A at the for cleanup volunteers in kayaks and canoes.

Shuttles, equipment and lunch will be provided for volunteers on the day of the cleanup.
