Coughlin Bows Out of U.S. Senate Race

Cuyahoga Falls resident faced an uphill battle.

Former state Sen. Kevin Coughlin, the Cuyahoga Falls resident who represented Summit County in the Ohio Senate from 2001-2011, has dropped out of the 2012 race for U.S. Senate.

Team Coughlin filed a termination report with the Federal Election Commission on Oct. 14, which reported $170 remained in balance.Β 

Coughlin was vying for the GOP nomination with Ohio Treasurer and front-runner Josh Mandel to take on incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.

Mandel has $3.;25 million in his war chest, according to Steven Koff at Cleveland.com, and faired better against Brown in several preliminary polls.

β€œI spent a few months exploring a possible run and didn’t like what I saw,” Coughlin told theΒ Cuyahoga Falls News-PressΒ Tuesday. Β  Β Β
