Coughlin Bows Out of U.S. Senate Race

Former state Sen. Kevin Coughlin, the Cuyahoga Falls resident who represented Summit County in the Ohio Senate from 2001-2011, has dropped out of the 2012 race for U.S. Senate.

Team Coughlin filed a termination report with the Federal Election Commission on Oct. 14, which reported $170 remained in balance. 

Coughlin was vying for the GOP nomination with Ohio Treasurer and front-runner Josh Mandel to take on incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.

Mandel has $3.;25 million in his war chest, according to Steven Koff at Cleveland.com, and faired better against Brown in several preliminary polls.

“I spent a few months exploring a possible run and didn’t like what I saw,” Coughlin told the Cuyahoga Falls News-Press Tuesday.     

Coughlin owns the public policy and management firm Lexington Strategic. A graduate of Woodridge High School and Bowling Green University, he lives in Cuyahoga Falls.
