Cuyahoga Falls Boy Runs from Stow Police Cruiser, Friend Falls in Gorge

Two young boys were charged with curfew and obstructing official business and referred to juvenile court.

Two boys ranΒ away from Stow Police officers β€”Β who were called about juveniles in the area past curfew early Tuesday β€”Β and a 12-year-old Munroe FallsΒ boy ended up with injuries afterΒ falling into the gorge by CVS Pharmacy.Β

Officers went toΒ Kent Road near DarrowΒ Road because of a call around 12:45 a.m. When the cruisers pulled up, the boys bolted into the wooded areaΒ behind CVS and behind Tip Top restaurant, according to police.Β

Officers found thatΒ one of the youths had jumped over a short wall in an attempt to hide, but had fallenΒ down a rocky cliff into the gorge and was bleeding from the head. He was about 10-15 feet down the gorge and was in danger of falling further, according to a prepared statement.

Officers, along with Stow FireΒ Department were able to rescue the Munroe Falls youthΒ and treat him for his head wound and other injuries. Police said the boyΒ toldΒ paramedics that he had been temporarily knocked out.Β He was taken to Akron Children's Hospital.Β

Officers weren't immediately able to find the second boy, a 15-year-old from Cuyahoga Falls,Β and said they were concerned he had fallen into the gorge as well.Β Β Police and fire searched the steep, rocky terrain for two hours for the second boy. He was eventually found hiding around a nearby residence. Police said the boy told them that he didn't know his friend was injured.

He was arrested and transported toΒ Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.Β

Both boys were charged with curfew and obstructing official business and referred to juvenileΒ court.
