Funny Stop Comedy Club Spotlights Amateurs
Beginner comedians compete in December's contest.

Jan. 18 and Jan. 19 mark the semifinals of the Ohio's Best Amateur Comedian Contest at Funny Stop Comedy Club.
Funny Stop hosts numerous contests throughout the year, with the next in January. The idea is to get amateurs on stage and getting his or her jokes heard, said Funny Stop Advertising Manager Nidal Barakat. The December contest requires mostly tame content from jokesters.
"They have to be very clean," Barakat said. "[They] cant be dirty for the opening act."

The opening act he refers to is part of the winner's bragging rights—an assigned night to open a Funny Stop show for a well-known comedian.
Participating comedians must bring an audience, but shows are open to the general public for $5.
