High-End Giant Eagle Coming to Portage Crossing

A Giant Eagle Market District store—described as a “gourmet emporium and a traditional food market all under one roof”—will serve as one of the two anchor businesses at Portage Crossing, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Plans are in the works between Cuyahoga Falls officials and representatives from the Pittsburgh-based grocer to bring the 94,000-square-foot, high-end store to the city.

A 40,000-square-foot, 10-screen Cinemark Theatre will act as the other anchor. 

Portage Crossing will be constructed at the corner of State Road and Portage Trail on the site of the former State Road Shopping Center, which was purchased and demolished by the city in 2008.

The land at the site, which was purchased by the city for nearly $4 million, was handed over to Portage Crossing developer Stark Enterprises on Tuesday.
