Local Youth Football Player Places Third in Ohio

Cuyahoga Falls has a local little sportsman who ranked third in Ohio at the final Punt, Pass and Kick NFL Competition.

Tyler Cargould, 7, got a chance to show his football stuff at the Cleveland Browns' facilities before attending the Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens game, Dec. 4.

Patch talked to Tyler’s dad, Brad Cargould, before the competition, and he followed up with us this January to let us know the results.

“Tyler took third,” Brad said. “He was nervous and kicked the top of the football and kicked it 10 feet.”

The competition, for kids ages 6 to 15 years old, has three activities—punt, pass and kick—that get totaled for an overall score, according to the NFL website. Tyler did well for the punt and pass, but the kick mess-up knocked him to third place.

This left him a little upset because he had scored higher in sectionals than the winner did at this state competition. Nevertheless, he had a lot of fun that day, Tyler said.

During the competition, Tyler said he was thinking about “when my dad was practicing with me and that I was doing the same thing.”

He not only practices with his dad, but also with the Cuyahoga Falls Black Tiger Youth Football Club. This year, he played tackle football and played tag football since age 5, Brad said. On the off season, he participates in basketball and three soccer teams, though nothing compared to the game he witnessed that day.

Brad remembers his son as being in awe at his first professional football game. Both dad and son are happy to have experienced it together.

“He loved it,” Brad said. “It was pouring down rain and cold but he didn’t want to leave.”

Tyler is ranked third in the state following the December Ohio Punt, Pass and Kick competition.
