Police Blotter: Greedy Home Depot Thief Caught in the Act, Evening Run Ends in Detox

On Thursday afternoon, a security guard watched a shopper place $885 worth of electrical wiring in a shopping cart and attempt to leave the store. The man was stopped and security recognized him, he had slipped out of the do-it-yourself chain the day before with $420 of wiring. Home Depot used surveillance tapes to confirm the thefts and the man admitted to the back-to-back crimes.

An evening run ends in detox

Officers spotted an intoxicated man running down Clyde Avenue on Friday night. They decided it was best to pursue him. As they gave chase, the man ran up to an apartment, knocked on the door and asked the tenant to “hide him for $100,” according to a report. The man was cited for disorderly conduct and taken to detox.

Inside job

A woman reported her roommate stole her purse from an East Portage apartment. The purse contained two cell phones, a credit card and cash. The items were valued at $140. The roommate admitted to stealing the handbag.
