Serial Drunken Driver Hit With 8-Year Prison Sentence

Edward A. South, 70, of Cuyahoga Falls, was sentenced to eight years in prison after a jury found him guilty May 13 on two felony counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. 

The OVI counts stem from a Dec. 26, 2012 incident where South crashed into a pole in Cuyahoga Falls and fled the scene, according to WKYC-TV.

Cuyahoga Falls police located him shortly thereafter and reported his blood alcohol level measured .087. 

Summit County Court of Common Pleas Judge Tammy O'Brien handed down the lengthy sentence due, in part, to the fact that South was convicted of OVI 12 times in the last 25 years, including a felony OVI conviction in Portage County.
