Serial Robber Implicated in Latest U.S. Bank Heist

Cuyahoga Falls Police didn't initially specify whether Benjamin Gates, 33, of Canton, was suspected in Thursday's U.S. Bank robbery, but the FBI has confirmed his alleged involvement.

All it took was one witness to bring down Benjamin Gates, 33, of Canton; the alleged serial bank robber who's evaded multiple law enforcement agencies for weeks. 

, the tipster reportedly spotted Gates getting into his car parked outside the Bailey Road Acme Fresh Market and immediately relayed his license plate number to authorities, according to FBI spokeswoman Vicki Anderson.

Within hours, Gates was arrested without incident in Canton for his alleged involvement in up to six bank robberies over the past six weeks.

As it stands, the FBI has charged him with one count of robbery in connection with an Aug. 10 holdup at Huntington Bank, located inside the Giant Eagle at 608 Raff Rd. in Canton.

"...It's just a matter of time before additional charges come," said Anderson during a phone interview with Patch on Friday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the FBI, Canton Police Department, Stark County Sheriffs Office, North Canton Police Department,  and Liberty Police Department, according to a Falls Police press release.

The following banks he’s suspected of robbing include:

  • July 2: U.S. Bank, located inside the Fishers Food store at 4403 Cleveland Ave. in Canton.
  • July 20:, located inside the Giant Eagle at 75 Graham Rd. in Cuyahoga Falls.
  • July 27: Huntington Bank, located inside the Giant Eagle at 4700 Belmont Ave. in Youngstown.
  • , located inside the  in North Canton.
  • Aug. 10: Huntington Bank, located inside the Giant Eagle at 608 Raff Rd. in Canton.
  • Aug. 16: U.S. Bank, located inside the  at 2630 Bailey Rd. in Cuyahoga Falls.
