The NFL sues rapper M.I.A. for $1.5 million

The 2012 Super Bowl halftime show featured Madonna and rapper M.I.A.  In an attention-grabbing move reminiscent of Janet Jackson’s infamous halftime wardrobe malfunction, M.I.A. “flipped off” the viewing public (see photo above).  

The NFL alleges M.I.A. breached her contract with the NFL and is seeking $1.5 million in damages.  In the contract, M.I.A. acknowledges the goodwill and “wholesomeness” associated with the NFL and M.I.A. agreed to "ensure that all elements of [her] Performance, including without limitation [her] wardrobe, shall be consistent with such goodwill and reputation."

M.I.A. was not paid for the performance.  The exposure of performing at halftime of the Super Bowl is thought compensation enough.
