Vigil Held for Chardon School Shooting Victims

The candlelight service took place at the Pilgrim United Church of Christ on Friday night.

 

Several parents, students and staff members from C convened at the on Friday night to help light the way for those who were killed and wounded at Chardon High earlier this week. 

Shari Schneider, one of Pilgrim's church leaders, lit six candles for the victims and shooter, and offered prayerful sentiments to those in attendance.

The vigil was the second showing of solidarity for the beleagured high school on Friday. The Black Tigers also dressed in black and red during the day to support Chardon as the school welcomed its students back and resumed classes, said Rachel Muster, the Cuyahoga Falls High guidance counselor.

Muster described the mood this week among Falls students as somber and respectful and said the goal among faculty and staff is to remind the kids that they are in a safe learning environment.

She said school officials will continue to revisit safety plans and practice lockdown drills to help ensure that such a tragedy doesn't occur in Cuyahoga Falls.

Officials already dealt with their first scare on Monday, as a rumor spread that someone was going to bring a gun to Cuyahoga Falls High School.

investigated the threat and found it not to be credible, the department said.

To report a potential threat no matter how insignificant it may seem, the police department has asked that the community call the station at 330-928-2181 or tell a parent, teacher or staff member within the school district.
