Some folks use Facebook, Twitter, or other social networks.
Each social network is a somewhat different way to communicate.
Social networks send their posts to us via email.
Thus, email becomes ever more extensively used.
Even when all of us are on a different social network, email continues to connect us to the Web.
Many of us subscribe to one or more social media networks. Β
For example, I post questions on Cuyahoga Falls Patch.com.
I am experimenting with Patch by posting questions supposedly read by thousands.
But, Patch does not tell me the exact number of people who read my post.
Thus, I am skeptical about the claim that thousands read my posts.
Frankly, I only need to involve a few key people who care to know how our community works.
Most of us know that we exist in a physical community called Cuyahoga Falls -- with taxing authority.
Only a few of us know that we exist in a virtual community larger than the Falls -- without the need to tax.
Our virtual community can help each other communicate better -- at the speed of thought.
And, we can see into how our physical community works through a window called a webpage.
This window has a perfect memory. Β Β
I consider Patch to have more functions than Falls News Press.com or Ohio.com Β
Meanwhile, I must use my Gmail address to sign in to Patch.com.Β
And, I use Gmail contacts to connect to people that I regard highly.
I also like to use the Google groups and website tools.
For static structured information, I use the website tools.
To facilitate questions and answers regarding our community, I like the Google Groups tools.
In my Google Groups tools, I enable community members to reply to a posted topic.
For a small Google group (where people know each other), I do not moderate the group. Β Β
For a large Google group (where people do not know each other), I moderate the group.
More on this later.Β
