📰 News we're reading

1. Cincinnati & Dayton Oktoberfest Guide 2026 (ohparent.com) — Dayton families can mark their calendars for the Dayton Art Institute's big Oktoberfest fundraiser September 25–27, with music, kids' activities, and plenty of German food and beer. The guide also highlights other Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky festivals if you're up for a short drive, but notes Dayton's event is the region's longest-running celebration.

2. Beavercreek Twp. issues fraud alert on fake invoices (wdtn.com) — Beavercreek Township, just outside Dayton, is warning residents and contractors about fake invoices and payment requests that mimic official township documents and emails. Officials stress that real emails end in "@beavercreektwpohio.gov" and that the township will never ask for wire transfers, urging anyone unsure to call or visit the office before paying.

3. ACLU of Ohio files lawsuit against ICE agents on behalf of Springfield man (ideastream.org) — A Springfield resident is suing seven ICE agents, claiming they tried to intimidate him for peacefully recording their activities, and the case is being heard in federal court in Dayton. Backed by the ACLU of Ohio, he's seeking a restraining order and identification of the agents, arguing their alleged conduct chills the public's right to monitor law enforcement in local neighborhoods.

4. Local Rep. to introduce Ohio Freedom From Mass Surveillance Act soon (wdtn.com) — A proposed Ohio bill announced from Dayton would sharply restrict government use of Flock license-plate cameras and other mass-surveillance tools, requiring warrants and banning data sales. Supporters say it balances crime-fighting with constitutional protections, and local residents could see changes in how police and agencies access vehicle-tracking data if it passes.
