Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Dayton Area Students

Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom

Four Ohio Connections Academy students from the Dayton area were recently recognized for their academic achievements and leadership as they were named Star Students of the Month for November.

Ezekiel Banks of Miamisburg, Abigail Thompson of Huber Heights, Zoey Ruland and Uriah Taylor, both from Dayton, were each nominated by their teachers in recognition of their hard work and the positive attitude they bring to the virtual classroom. As Star Students, they will be presented a certificate recognizing his or her achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s website.

β€œThe faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize these students and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. β€œEach of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”

Ezekiel, a Kindergartner, was nominated by his teacher Mrs. Keatley because he has been working very hard and puts so much creativity into his assignments. β€œHe truly is a respectful, responsible, and engaged student,” she said.

Abigail is a fourth grader and was nominated by her teacher Ms. Waltjen because β€œshe goes above and beyond” to be successful in the virtual classroom. β€œAbigail completes all extra credit work and is kind and helpful during our small group math LiveLessons,” Ms. Waltjen said.

Zoey is a third-grade student and was nominated by her teacher, Ms. Allbright, because she strives to do her best in each of her subject areas. β€œShe attends all the LiveLessons and is excited to learn and is joyful in the process of learning,” Ms. Allbright said.

Uriah is a freshman at Ohio Connections Academy and was nominated by her Algebra teacher Ms. Schultz because Uriah has successfully developed the study skills and time management skills that have enabled her to be successful in the online environment. β€œUriah is a new student at OCA and has shown grit and persistence as she has begun her online learning journey,” she said.
