Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Dayton Student

Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom

Annika Kalloor of Dayton was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students of the Month for January in recognition of her academic achievements and leadership in and outside the classroom.

Annika, a fourth grader at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by her teacher Ms. Waltjen in recognition of her hard work and determination to succeed. As a Star Student, Annika will be presented a certificate recognizing her achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s social media sites. Each month during the school year OCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Annika and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”

Annika started attending Ohio Connections Academy in 2017 as she was about to start the first grade. Previously she had been homeschooled and her parents felt the curriculum OCA offered would be a good fit for Annika.

According to Annika, she likes how the school “helps focus on the child's needs and there is no unnecessary peer pressure.” She also likes how there is more parent/learning coach involvement and more interaction with the teachers.
