19 CVCC Cosmetology Students Place in Statewide Competition
Revere's Camile Brokoliff wins first place in Bridal category.

Nineteen cosmetology students from the placed in various events at a state cosmetology competiton held at The Galaxy banquet center in Wadsworth.
About 400 students, 80 from CVCC, competed at the 2011 Ohio State Cosmetology Competition in categories that included Bridal, Ladies Team, Ladies Blow Dry and Style, Avant Garde, Fantasy and Total Nail Technician. The competition was open to all high school students enrolled in an accredited career technical program.
Two juniors from CVCC won first and second place for the Bridal category, which according to instructor Marilyn Mormile, requires that the stylist choose an evening or day wedding with matching makeup. Camile Brokoliff of took first place and Hope Nelson of Independence took second.

For the Ladies Team category, a three-member team could place overall, or each student could place individually in hair, makeup or nails. Two CVCC teams took first and third place overall. The first place team consisted of Elaina Kovach (makeup), Emilee Straziuso (nails), Lauren Turner (hair), all of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights area. The third place team included Revere's Katie Abbott (makeup), and Marisa Mancuso (nails) and Alex Lindway (hair), both of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights area.
“Overall the class brought home numerous medals and I couldn’t be happier with the hard work and time the students put into their preparation for the competition,” Mormile said in a press statement.

Other winners included:
- Angel Rivera of Nordonia Hills placed second in Avant Garde
- Morgan Elliot of Nordonia Hills placed first in Fantasy
- Anna Macerelli of Independence placed third in Fantasy
- Elaina Kovach of placed first in Team individually for makeup;
- Lauren Turner of placed first in Team individually for hair
- Marissa Mancuso of placed third in Team individually for nails
- Aubrey Adams of Nordonia Hills placed second in Team individually for makeup
- Lateenya Weaver of Garfield Heights placed first in Ladies Blow Dry and Style
- Gia Torres of Garfield Heights placed second in Ladies Blow Dry and Style
- Carlee Gaydos of North Royalton placed third in Ladies Blow Dry and Style
The annual competition is designed to hone the skills of cosmetology students and allow them to experience firsthand what other upcoming competitions at the cosmetology conferences will look and feel like, according to a statement from CVCC. Students are tested on their knowledge of specific areas of hair styling, nail care and makeup.
