📰 News we're reading

• Real estate transfers in Greater Akron for early February 2026 (kentucky.com) — Recent property transfers show Fairlawn homes selling from about $230,000 up to nearly $786,000, including addresses on Morewood Road, Stanley Road, Corunna Avenue and Chestnut Lane. The broader report also tracks top sales across Summit, Portage and Medina counties, giving Fairlawn homeowners and buyers a clear snapshot of current market values nearby.

• Terrific Twilight: Fairlawn Rotary Observatory (akronlife.com) — Fairlawn-area residents helped create a world-class public observatory at Bath Nature Preserve through the Rotary Club of Fairlawn, and it's now open on clear nights for free stargazing. This fall, you can visit for International Observe the Moon Night on Sept. 19 and a special Oct. 3 meet-and-greet with refreshments and a telescope raffle, all just minutes from Fairlawn.

• Charlie Thomas, owner of Ray's Place in Kent, dies at age 81 (beaconjournal.com) — Many Fairlawn residents will remember the short-lived Ray's Place on Ghent Road, whose late owner Charlie Thomas helped bring the beloved Kent bar's atmosphere across from Summit Mall. Thomas, a Vietnam veteran and longtime Kent entrepreneur, has died at 81, and friends are invited to celebrate his life at an Oct. 11 gathering in Kent instead of a formal funeral.
