Bath Police Blotter: A Fake Fire Victim Scams Hotel and More
The following arrest information was supplied by the Bath Township police department. It does not indicate a conviction.
Theft
are looking for a man who allegedly left the on Sept. 18 without paying.
An assistant general manager of the hotel told police they received a call at about 9 p.m. Sept. 17 from someone who identified himself as an insurance agent who wanted to book a room for the victim of a house fire.

The caller provided the name of the victim who checked in midnight. When asked for identification, the man said he had lost everything in the fire.
The next morning a housekeeper noticed the room was empty and that a flat sheet, a duvet and a 32" LG flat screen television that was bolted to a dresser was missing.

Police are looking for the guest, described as a muscularly built white male, approximately 5-foot, 8-inches tall, with dark, brown uncombed hair dressed in a dark T-shirt.
Operating a Vehicle while Impaired
Police stopped a driver going the west in the eastbound lane of Medina Road at about 9:15 p.m. Sept. 16.
Oncoming traffic had unsuccessfully tried to signal the driver, who was heading down the road without headlights.
According to police, an officer detected a slight odor of alcohol in the car. The driver also performed poorly on field sobriety tests.
Ellen Malick, 47, was arrested and taken to the Bath Police Department where she refused a breathalizer test. Malick was cited for operating a vehicle while impared, lane and headlights violations.
Drug paraphernalia
Police pulled over a car driving on Cleveland-Massillon Road at 1:39 a.m. Sept. 17 with one headlight. According to the report, police detected a slight odor of burnt marijuana during the traffic stop. Police discovered a glass pipe and a marijuana grinder in the trunk. Nicholas Lauer, 18, was was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and warned for operating with one headlight. The driver was processed on scene and released with a summons to appear in court. Laurer was given field sobriety tests and cleared to drive home.
