A Selfless Act of Kindness--From a 4-Year Old

A 4-year old's selfless act of kindness reminds us that the world is still filled with good people doing good things.

To look at the media, one would think the world is full of negativity and wrong-doing. No one does anything nice for their fellow man and if they do, it can only be out of self-interest. But just when I've decided to throw up my hands and accept the world's fate to be filled with selfishness, greed and hate, leave it to a 4-year old to remind me that our world is still filled with good people doing good things.

Sydney Myers-Schoonover, a 4-year old in the pre-K program in the Shaw JCC's Early Childhood department, did a wonderful mitzvah (good deed). Sydney decided to cut 12-inches of her beautiful long hair and donate it to Wigs for Kids.

Sydney said she was very excited to do this for kids who are sick and do not have any hair.

Sydney's kindness reminded me of one of my favorite quotes. "Give of yourself. You can always give something, even if it is only kindness. No one has ever become poor from giving," Anne Frank.

I hope that Sydney's generosity inspires others around her (adults and children alike) to give of themselves in order to make our world a better place. On behalf of the Shaw JCC of Akron, "GREAT JOB Sydney! We are very proud of you."
