Escape the Winter Blahs with a Free Tennis Lesson
Towpath Tennis Center will introduce you Saturday to the sport of a lifetime -- for free -- in this week's Great Escape!

Tennis anyone? This week’s Great Escape can put you on the path to a lifetime of fitness – and a lot of fun.
On Saturday, Towpath Tennis Center will host a free indoor tennis lesson for beginners or players who want to return to the sport, but need a little refresher course. The 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. lesson will run you through the basics, beginning with how to hold a racquet, said Marketing Director Robin Rohrig. The lesson will be supervised by Towpath’s United States Professional Tennis Association teaching professionals.
Why play tennis? It’s a great workout. The Cleveland Clinic recommends tennis for an excellent cardiovascular workout that can burn nearly 500 calories an hour. Tennis is also one of the most social games. It’s one of the few sports where women, men, single people, married couples and families can all play together, according to the United States Tennis Association.

Free tennis lesson participants should wear comfortable clothing and non-marking athletic shoes, Rohrig said. Water will be provided on the courts.
Bring a tennis racquet you have one. No racquet? No worries. The friendly front desk staff at Towpath Tennis Center will be happy to lend you one, Rohrig said.
