Sometimes good deals turn up at unexpected places. If you lead a busy lifestyle (who doesn’t?), sometimes a little added convenience, such as delivery, makes a good price an even better deal. And for the dedicated bargain-hunter, sometimes striking out into the field makes the successful hunt all the more satisfying. On to hunt, then:
• The Fussy Cleaners, . (Montrose Center), Bath Twp., 330-666-3088; 330-666-4737. Fussy got its start in Northeast Ohio in 1980. Standard rate to dry clean a suit is $6.30 for jacket, $6.60 pants; basic dress is $12.90. Basic rate to launder a men’s shirt is $2.39, but discount coupons are available at the The Fussy Cleaners’ website (be sure to make it singular fussycleaner.com unless you’re looking for a job). The prices are competitive (often better than other cleaners), plus Fussy offers free delivery. With gas pushing $4 a gallon, it’s hard to get a pizza with free delivery.
• , 55 Ghent Rd., Fairlawn, 330-864-1777. Continental Cuisine specializes in Mediterranean food, kebabs, shawarma, gyros and gourmet specialty pizzas. A unique blend of appetizing aromas greets you as you enter; you can take that with you, as a faint hint of it lingers on the take-out menus. Sandwiches range from $4.99 to $8.99. A small 10-inch Italian-style or gourmet pizza starts at $7.99. Entrees start at $10.99. Kids’ menu includes chicken nuggets with fries for $3.99. True, there are cheaper eats to be had on well-advertised dollar menus, but Continental Cuisine is a nice change of pace from the usual fast-food fare. Dine-in, carry-out, catering and delivery ($2 delivery charge, $10 minimum). Open Monday-Saturday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
• , 2753 W. Market St., Fairlawn, 330-869-0426; 470 Howe Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, 330-928-8611; 2900 State Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, 330-923-4785. Marc’s is a bargain-hunter’s paradise, and each store has its unique charms. The Fairlawn store has Nickel’s white bread at $1.09 a loaf this week, and lots of other specials including boxes of Quaker Oats cereals (sizes vary) 2 for $5. On the home page, enter your ZIP Code in the View Our Weekly Ad box to find the specials at the store nearest you. A lot of merchandise is regularly stocked, but some surprises often await among the close-outs.
• , 615 Graham Road, Cuyahoga Falls, 330-929-2929. A Cuyahoga Falls landmark for more than 40 years, Krieger’s manages to consistently stock fresh, high-quality produce and usually beats local competitors in price. The busy store has a substantial organic produce aisle and large health foods section; Amish-country pies; a deli with the usual array of meats and cheeses; and organic wines. It features local produce when available, including corn from Szalay’s farm in the nearby Cuyahoga River Valley, and Holmes County cheeses. Look for the red barn and red-and-white silo, then park next to the Amish buggy.
• , 2930 State Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, 330-724-6995. The Cuyahoga Falls Village Discount is another bargain-hunter’s target-rich environment. On Mondays, you can snag selected items for 50 cents apiece. Other days feature half-off already low prices on clothes and other items with color-coded tags. Basic clothes, T-shirts, suits and costumes are among items available. Designer items are a bit more, but often still a bargain. A pair of men’s shorts, almost new, can be had for $1.50 on the right day. I’ll be happy to model them after I’ve lost about 15 pounds.
