Suspected Drug User Busted During Target Theft

The following was obtained from a Fairlawn police report. It does not indicate a conviction.

Things went from bad to worse for a hapless crook caught stuffing multiple DVD box sets into a book bag at Target on Jan. 30.

A security guard saw the theft in progress via video surveillance and called Fairlawn police.

Officers apprehended the Canton man as he left the store, but found a little more than they bargained for when he produced a syringe, ice cream scoop and crack pipe from his bag.

According to the Fairlawn police report, the man admitted to abusing heroin and crack-cocaine.

He was charged with theft, a first-degree misdemeanor; possession of drug abuse instruments, a first-degree misdemeanor; and drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

The $560 worth of DVDs were returned to the store.
