Fairlawn School of Music does have a similarity or two to the movie "School of Rock."Β Students who have honed their chops under the direction of co-owners Kurt Reed and his partners Ron Martin and Steve Eckert ended up on the stage of local battles of the bands. Β One band even made it to the finals. But Reed said the school does more than train the next American Idol.Β
"Students become very comfortable memorizing, creating and preparing for a presentation," he said. "What can be learned from the stage crosses over to all areas of life. Β Β The school holds its grand opening today from noon to 5 p.m. at 201 Cleveland Massillon Rd. Reed and his partners also own Β Jam Session Music SchoolΒ in Kent. Β
Students who want to study and instrument or voice in rock, jazz or cabaret can try out a free consultation to make sure teacher and student are a good fit.Β Classes start at $25 per half hour. The school encourages students to commit to six hours every 12 weeks and to participate in a recital at the end of the term.
