UDS Toy Center Hosts Community Open House

Are your kids already bored this summer? Are the grandkids coming for a visit from out-of-town and you need toys fast? United Disability Services' Toy & Resource Center may be just the solution you are looking for to meet your toy needs.

Join United Disability Services for a community open house on July 26 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to see firsthand what the Center has to offer.  There will be activities for the kids, refreshments and opportunities to win a free one-year family membership to the Toy Center.

The Toy & Resource Center, located at 701 S. Main St. in Akron, loans developmental toys and resource materials to anyone working with a child from birth to six years of age with special needs or developing typically. The Center is the largest of its kind in the Akron area and members can choose from literally hundreds of toys that kids love to play with including climbing and riding toys, cars and trucks, kitchen sets, musical instruments and much more!

A low-cost membership is open to individuals and organizations including parents, grandparents, teachers, therpists, students, hospitals, child care centers and preschool programs. The Center staff is experienced in child development and available to help members select age-appropriate toys and offer suggestions for fun and creative play. And unlike most toy stores, children visiting the Center are encouraged to try out toys before making their selections. A Speciall Needs Division including specialized adaptive switches, toys and computer training devices, and games for older individuals with special needs are also available.

United Disability Services has been meeting the social, vocational, community living, low vision and transportation needs of people with disabilities since 1949. For more information about the Toy & Resource Center, call 330-762-9755 or visit www.udsakron.org.
