Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Concerns pouring in with Fremont drinking water (portclintonnewsherald.com) — If your Fremont tap water tastes or smells different, city officials say current testing shows it is still safe to drink while they investigate the cause. Crews are tracing problem spots, suspecting organic material or algae in Sandusky River source water, and have sent samples for detailed lab tests due Oct. 1; residents are encouraged to report issues and can call the water plant directly.
2. Blessing of the Pets slated for Spiegel Grove on Oct. 4 (kentucky.com) — Fremont pet owners are invited to bring their animals to Spiegel Grove on Sunday, Oct. 4, for a noon Blessing of the Pets led by an Episcopalian monk affiliated with St. Paul's Episcopal Church in town. Afterward, Hayes Presidential will mark Rutherford B. Hayes' birthday with a tree planting, wreath-laying, and special exhibits celebrating beloved dogs and local history.
3. ODOT recommends new US 23-I-71 connector between northwest Ohio and Columbus (wtol.com) — Fremont drivers who regularly battle U.S. 23 traffic to Columbus could eventually see relief from a proposed new 18-mile connector to I-71, now formally recommended by ODOT. The project promises shorter trips for northwest Ohio travelers like local superfan "Big Nut," but still faces big questions over funding, possible tolls, and impacts on farms and rural communities before any construction is approved.
4. Candice Trapp - LaGrange Standard and News (lagrangenewsonline.com) — Fremont families are mourning Candice "Candy" Trapp, a Fremont-born longtime Grace Lutheran Church member who died Sept. 22 at age 78. Though she later lived in Indiana, she maintained close Fremont ties, and will be interred beside her husband at Oakwood Cemetery, with local relatives and friends invited to remember her in their own ways.
5. Rising prices, tariff costs: Brown takes aim at Husted in Fremont (centredaily.com) — A packed campaign stop at The Strand Theater in Fremont brought Sherrod Brown face-to-face with local residents frustrated by rising prices, tariffs, and utility costs. Brown sharply criticized Sen. Jon Husted's support for tariffs and war spending, tying them to higher farm and fuel costs, and highlighted his past advocacy for downtown Fremont projects and Social Security protections.
