Northeast Ohio Medical University Announces Appointment of New College of Pharmacy Dean

Charles T. Taylor, Pharm.D., BCPS, has been named dean of the College of Pharmacy at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) effective fall 2012. As dean, Dr. Taylor will report to the president of the University and serve as a member of the Council of Deans, which oversees the academic programs and operations of the University.
“It’s my pleasure to announce Dr. Taylor’s appointment as dean of the College of Pharmacy and welcome him to Northeast Ohio Medical University,” said Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., president of NEOMED. “His extensive achievements speak to his passion for patient care, dedication to research and focus on academic innovation, and these strengths are well aligned with the current momentum of our College of Pharmacy and will undoubtedly move it forward.”
Dr. Taylor will serve as only the second dean in the College of Pharmacy at NEOMED, following the departure of inaugural dean David D. Allen, R.Ph., Ph.D., FASHP, FAPhA.

“I am deeply honored to have been selected as the next dean of the College of Pharmacy,” said Dr. Taylor. “This is an extraordinary opportunity for me to join an organization dedicated to the advancement of pharmacy education, biomedical research and collaborative care as part of the vision of being the premier community-based, interprofessional health sciences University in the United States. I welcome the opportunity to serve in this capacity.”
With extensive academic administrative experience developing and implementing strategic plans, educational initiatives and research programs that have increased research funding and advanced scholarly work, Dr. Taylor’s experience includes building and growing clinical and community partnerships as well as initiating programs to improve operational effectiveness and financial sustainability. He has also worked as a pharmacist, providing medication management services for patients with chronic diseases in primary care clinics.

In his current role, Dr. Taylor serves as the senior associate dean for professional education and professor of pharmaceutical care and health systems in the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. Prior to this position, he served as chair of the Division of Pharmacy Practice and associate dean of clinical affairs at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He began his academic career as an assistant professor and internal medicine pharmacist at Auburn University.
Dr. Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University, graduating both programs with honors. A certified pharmacotherapy specialist, Dr. Taylor completed a post-graduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency at Duke University Medical Center and recently completed at leadership management program at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
