Now that the trees have been barren for a few weeks, I think a return to the fine fall that befell us is in order. It was a welcome improvement over the last couple years, which were dull in comparison.
Maples were quite colorful this year, and the favorite maple-lined Rockwell Road along Rockwell Reservoir did not disappoint, turning in the second-best year of color I can recall. During a colorful fall, cars will slow, even stop, on Rockwell Road to experience the cave of yellow. A nearby resident told me that years ago, before many of the trees died, it was even more spectacular. She said older residents called the two rows of trees "the sentinels".
My most ardent followers here (I know at least one exists) will remember the Rainbow House photo from last spring, taken at the corner of Columbus and Depeyster. This time the house is barely visible through the large neighboring maple.

Not to be outdone, the tamaracks at Kent Bog turned in one of their best years, also. They tend to show their colors a little after other trees have peaked. Next year, when the leaves start falling off your yard trees, visit Kent Bog for bonus fall foliage.
