Squeaky Clean: Natural body products and your health

What you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it! Learn simple tips about natural body care products.

As your biggest organ, how you treat your skin can positively or negatively affect your body in a huge way.  Hygiene and beauty products do not stay skin deep!  Pharmaceutical companies have known this and used it to their advantage by developing cream, patch, and spray medicines that penetrate through the skin and into your system.   Creams, lotions, body wash, soap, toners, exfoliants, perfumes, acne creams and many more products can do the same.  These items bombard drugstore aisles and make their way into our personal medicine cabinets and showers.

A common rule I use with food is: don’t consume it unless you can pronounce all the ingredients and imagine what they look like in their whole form.  The same rule should apply with what you put on your body!

Luckily, natural skin products do exist, many made right in Portage county!  One of my favorites is Emily’s Soaps.  Her products are simple, work great, and most importantly non-toxic.  Check out the comparison of one of Emily’s soaps, Patchouli and a popular brand soap found at the grocery store.

  • Simplify! Take inventory of what you have and what you really need; the less products the better.
  • Use natural ingredients: don’t trust themarketing, check the back ingredients to be sure!
  • Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle! Your skin is a direct reflection of your diet, digestion, and overall health.
