Did you know that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused by the age of 18?  Ninety percent of these children are violated by someone they know and trust.  If these statistics bother you, please read this.

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Portage County is pleased to announce a cost-effective sexual abuse prevention and response training: “Darkness to Light - Stewards of Children”.  This short, practical, and eye-opening program is ideal for training staff and volunteers in youth-serving organizations, as well as parents, teachers, or anyone interested in stopping these terrible crimes against children.  It educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

Sexual abuse has enormous costs.  Individuals and organizations cannot afford to ignore it, as children and families are hurt, reputations of organizations can be destroyed, and insurance settlements can be astronomical.

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Portage County served 126 children in 2009 and 1139 in the last 10 years.  All of these children were involved in reports of sexual abuse and nearly all of them live in Portage County.

Help us to strike out child sexual abuse.  Consider attending this insightful and effective local training and encourage members of your neighborhood, organization, or community group to do the same.

 The next training is September 14, 2012 ~ 9am to 12pm

Robinson Memorial Hospital – Medical Arts Building RMAB 25

6847 North Chestnut Street ~ Ravenna, OH 44266

The class is $20 and includes Continuing Education Credits, if needed, for RN’s, Teachers, Social Workers, Counselors and Marriage & Family Therapists.  Pre-registration is required.  For more information on this training, or to schedule training for your group, contact: Rachel Lancaster (rlancaster@rmh2.org) at (330) 297-8838.
