The March dinner meeting of The Garden Club of Kent will be on March 25 at the United Methodist Church, Pierson Meeting Room, 1435 East Main Street, Kent, Ohio. Dinner is served at 6:30pm and the program begins at 7:30pm. Dinner reservations are required by the previous Friday. Call Harold at 330-673-1686 to reserve. The speaker will be Hanna Rhoades of Bedford, OH, the owner of Gardening Know How (www.gardeningknowhow.com), one of the leading gardening advice sites on the web. Her talk is entitled “Introduction to Heirloom Tomatoes;” what are heirloom tomatoes, where do they come from, why should you grow them? The public is welcome.
Plans are moving forward for the second annual Mother’s Day Hanging Basket sale. Many locally grown, hanging baskets of lovely flowers will be available on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11, from 9AM-6PM, at the Ode to Joy, 480 Ravenna Road, Streetsboro, Ohio. Also available will be select garden tools, Plant Sale tickets, and Gift Certificates for the Plant Sale, scheduled for May 23-26, 2013. The Club accepts cash, checks, and credit cards. The Garden Club of Kent is a not-for-profit organization. Proceeds from the Mother’s Day Hanging Basket sale and the Annual Plant Sale support scholarships for students studying horticulture or conservation and Project Green, a gardening program for youth with special needs.
