Kent resident and artist, Claudia Berlinski, is guest curator of an art exhibition titled The Altered Book Project for Summit Artspace in Akron. The show will open on Friday, June 17, 2011 with an artist’s reception from 5-7pm at the gallery and runs through July 30, 2011. Summit Artspace is located at 140 East Market Street, Akron, Ohio, with regular gallery hours Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 12-5 pm.
Claudia Berlinski is Senior Lecturer at the University of Akron, Myers School of Art, as well as adjunct faculty at Youngstown State University. The exhibition includes work by several University of Akron art faculty, and artists living or working in Portage, Summit and Medina counties.
Altered books are previously existing books that have been recycled and repurposed creating works of art by gluing, painting, collage, rubber stamping, cutting, tearing, embellishing, etc. Each artist assumed the task of specifically creating a piece (or pieces) for this exhibition. The work takes on a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms.
