Jim Tully Birthday Celebration

Paul
J. Bauer and Mark Dawidziak, authors of Jim Tully: American Writer,
Irish Rover, Hollywood Brawler, will give a talk about Tully on the
anniversary of his birthday on Monday, June 3 at 7 pm. The Kent Free
Library was a favorite hangout for Tully during his years spent in
Northeast Ohio.

Bauer and Dawidziak will present information and photos about Tully from
their 19 years of researching the "hobo author" from St. Marys, Ohio.
Although largely forgotten today, Tully was a literary superstar of the
1920s and '30s. His novels told the story of the American underclass:
hobos, carnival workers, con artists, and boxers. Kent State University
Press recently reprinted four of Tully's book which were edited by Bauer
and Dawidziak.

Copies of Jim Tully will be available for purchase through the Kent Free
Library Foundation and Bauer and Dawidziak will hold a signing after
the presentation.

Bauer is a used and rare book dealer in Kent and the coauthor of Frazier
Robinson's autobiography, Catching Dreams. Dawidziak is the author of
several nonfiction books, novels, and plays, and is the television
critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Light refreshments will be served following the program. Registration is
requested and begins on May 6.
