Kent State University Police Win Award, Receive Reaccreditation

The department was recognized as a model public safety organization.

KENT, OH - The Kent State University Police Department was recently reaccredited and received the Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation with Excellence from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The award recognizes agencies that effectively use accreditation as a model for the delivery of enhanced public safety services and management professionalism

The department also received Meritorious Award honors for being an accredited agency for more than 15 years. The agency got certified in 1991 and is now one of 79 college police departments that are certified.

“The officers are very committed to providing the community with outstanding police service, and they recognize the importance of accreditation in helping them achieve that goal,” Dean Tondiglia, Kent State police chief and interim director of public safety said. “The accreditation process helps us ensure that the university community is receiving the most professional and comprehensive law enforcement services possible.”
