2 Lakewood 19-Year-Olds Killed In Car Crash

GoFundMes have been launched to help their families pay for funeral costs and other expenses.

LAKEWOOD, OH β€” Two 19-year-old Lakewood men were killed in a car accident Sunday, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office announced.

Maximus Close, 19, and Alejandro Mercado, 19, were in a car together at 2:30 a.m. While riding, they were hit by another car near Fry Avenue and Clifton Boulevard. Police said it is not yet clear what led to the car accident.

Two other people were hurt in the crash, police said.

Close was an employee of Taco Tontos and the restaurant has launched a GoFundMe to help his family. The restaurant also announced it would be closed until Wednesday.

A GoFundMe has also been launched to help Mercado's family.

"I will continue to work with my colleagues on council and our police department to improve traffic safety. The family of these victims are in my prayers," said Lakewood City Council President Dan O'Malley.
