LAKEWOOD, OH — Two Lakewood High School seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists. They join a small group of students that will now try to compete for college scholarships.

Evan Bell and Aidan Bohac became National Merit Semifinalists based on their PSAT scores. Their performances stood out against 1.6 million of their peers. Only 16,000 students nationwide are named National Merit Semifinalists annually.

Bell and Bohac are now eligible to move on in the competition in hopes of being named a National Merit Finalist. They would then have an opportunity to receive one or more of the 7,500 scholarships awarded through the program in the spring.

To become a finalist, the program explains that students and a high-school official must submit a detailed application. The application must contain information about a student’s academic record, leadership abilities, the honors and awards they’ve received and more.

Students will find out in February whether they make it to the finalist stage. The scholarship winners will be announced beginning in April 2020.
