LAKEWOOD, OH — The 2020 Census Count will start in April 2020 and Lakewood officials want to ensure an accurate count in the city. Officials have already submitted a parcel list for the count, but the city must ensure that each parcel takes part in the count.

A census questionnaire will be mailed to each home next year. Ideally, every resident will fill out their form and mail it to the U.S. Census. The city said experience suggest that many homes will simply not fill out the forms.

To get the forms filled out, Lakewood wants residents to educate their neighbors on the importance of filling out the census forms. The city is creating a Complete Count Committee composed of interested residents, education officials, business leaders, real estate leaders, landlords, nonprofits and other groups.

Volunteers would help residents and neighbors understand how important filling out the U.S. Census forms are. For instance, volunteers could highlight how census data is used to determine congressional seats.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the Complete Count Committee should send an email, with their contact information, to katie.meehan@lakewoodoh.net or call the mayor’s office at 216-529-6600
