Here are the top three stories in Lakewood today:

  1. Graduating high school seniors Estella Dajko, Elana Rouse, and Isabella Shaner of Rocky River High School, and Abigail Hirsch and Teeghan McGann of Lakewood High School received $3,000 in college scholarships from the Rotary Club of Lakewood-Rocky River. The five scholarship winners each demonstrated academic achievement and potential. They were chosen for their character, extracurricular, and community involvement. (cleveland.com)
  2. The Beck Center's current rom-com production of "The Legend of Georgia McBride" is a wonderful celebration of theater, life, and drag, according to director Eric Schmiedel. The play, which runs through Jun. 26 in the Studio Theater, was scheduled to be part of the Center's recent Diversity Week. Schmiedl, a local, award-winning playwright, actor, and musician, added that the play "boasts a similar vibe to feature film and stage musical "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," which acts as a celebration of drag and the beauty of the art form. 3. Cleveland-area Lyft driver Mont Phillips was nearly carjacked as he found himself at gunpoint last Saturday night around 11:00 p.m. in the Hough neighborhood. Phillips was waiting in front of the person's house he was supposed to pick up when he began getting calls telling him to back up. When he looked in his rear view mirror he saw a bunch of men with guns pointing at him. (Cleveland 19 News)
