5 Things to Know Today

Become a part of the Lakewood Earth and Food Community, register the youngsters for summer recreation and enjoy the sunny skies.

Whether you're a new gardener or experienced "city farmer," LEAF, the Lakewood Earth and Food Community, may be the organization for you. LEAF teaches you how to scale back on your food expenses, eat healthy and live a greener life. Starting Wednesday June 1, LEAF will meet outside the , build a makeshift marketplace and attract vendors and consumers who share an interest in a variety of agricultural goods, crafts, and artwork. From June to October, the markets will be open every Wednesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and the community is welcome to buy and sell sustainable goods. For parents who want their youngsters involved in summer recreation, now's the time. Registration for all summer programs is going on now, including Safety Town, Preschool Potpourri, Camp Can Do, STOP or Kids Connection. Parents can sign their kids up in person at the or at the department's website.

Don't forget the sunglasses and SPF 15 tomorrow as Lakewood is expected to see a high of 91 and low of 70 degrees. Forecasts indicate that the heavy rains have subsided, so put the umbrella away and enjoy a sun-filled week.
