Lakewood Resident Wins Baldwin Wallace Faculty Award

Thomas Sutton, Ph.D., professor and chair of political science, is the recipient of the Exemplary Teacher Award from Baldwin Wallace University.

Presented April 27 at the University’s Ovation honors award ceremony, the award is co-sponsored by The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church. It recognizes a faculty member who exhibits excellence in teaching, civility and concern for students and colleagues, commitment to value-centered education and service to students, the institution and the community.

Having been with BW since 1998, Sutton infuses contemporary political analysis, social media, advocacy and applied research into his teaching.

As director of the BW Public Interest Research Center, he involves students in work for government and nonprofit agencies. Among his many accolades, he is the University’s 2009 and 2012 Student Senate Faculty Excellences Award winner and is a Fulbright Scholar studying in Ghana for spring 2014.  Off campus, he is an ongoing political analyst for leading electronic and print media.

In nominating him for the award, a former student wrote, "His contributions in service have been notable and demonstrate his deep engagement in matters important to both the University and his department."
