This film, about a father who goes to extremes to save his only son from drug addiction, is produced by local production company Giant Leap Pictures.

Kenny Latimer, the director of "Falling Backwards" and the founder of Giant Leap Pictures, said that Lakewood Hardware was the perfect spot for a scene with the movie's main character.

The lead character (played by Tom Dubyna) stops into the hardware store owned by his brother-in-law (portrayed by Randall De Alba).

“It fits the character — we didn’t want a Home Depot or Lowe’s,” said Latimer. “Lakewood hardware is very organized and its got the look. And there’s plenty of room for camera equipment and our crew.”

“It all comes down to what sells the story — what makes the story look real.”

Latimer said the movie — which will include other shots from around Lakewood — will be wrapping production on the feature-length film Falling Backwards later this week in Shaker Heights.

The film stars Cleveland native Robert Piper (All My Children, Rescue Me), Karyn White (Casualties of War, Deadpool), Tom Dubyna (The Homecoming, Doughboy) and Jimmie Lee Williams (Freerunner, The Black Dove).

Giant Leap Pictures is donating a portion of the film’s proceeds to Ohio’s non-profit drug rehabilitation center, Glenbeigh.

When the hardware store closed at 2 p.m. Sunday the cast and crew began setting up shop.

Lakewood Hardware owner Glenn Palmer said he doesn’t know how much of his store will be recognizable as Lakewood Hardware in the film — but added that he's happy to participate.

“I hope that we can be identified,” he said.

"Falling Backwards" is the latest in a line of movies that have been filmed in Lakewood.

Earlier this year, “” starring Victoria Justice, was shot on Andrews Avenue; and last week, a robbery scene for the film “” was shot at Ross Deli on Detroit Avenue.
