Antonio: Complex Bridge Rehab Project Moves Forward

State Rep. Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood) today announces the release of $345,287 in state funding to complete construction contract plans for the rehabilitation of the State Route 176 southbound bridge over Interstate Route 71 southbound in Cuyahoga County. The Controlling Board, a panel tasked with oversight of state spending, approved the funding at today’s meeting.

“I am pleased the state recognizes the importance of investing in Northeast Ohio’s roads and bridges,” said Antonio. “Modern, reliable roadways are vital to ensuring people can get to and from work, children can ride to school safely, and goods and services can be delivered on time. I look forward to the completion of this long awaited bridge project.”
The Controlling Board originally approved $400,000 in August 2015 for a preliminary engineering study, environmental documentation and completion of construction contract plans. The latest round of funding comes after preliminary engineering studies encountered a more complex structure and traffic maintenance issues than anticipated.
Constructions costs for the SR 176 bridge rehabilitation project are estimated at $4 million. The construction contract will likely be awarded in January 2020.
