Antonio: Complex Bridge Rehab Project Moves Forward

State approves funding to further study State Route 176 overhaul

State Rep. Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood) today announces the release of $345,287 in state funding to complete construction contract plans for the rehabilitation of the State Route 176 southbound bridge over Interstate Route 71 southbound in Cuyahoga County. The Controlling Board, a panel tasked with oversight of state spending, approved the funding at today’s meeting.

β€œI am pleased the state recognizes the importance of investing in Northeast Ohio’s roads and bridges,” said Antonio. β€œModern, reliable roadways are vital to ensuring people can get to and from work, children can ride to school safely, and goods and services can be delivered on time. I look forward to the completion of this long awaited bridge project.”
The Controlling Board originally approved $400,000 in August 2015 for a preliminary engineering study, environmental documentation and completion of construction contract plans. The latest round of funding comes after preliminary engineering studies encountered a more complex structure and traffic maintenance issues than anticipated.
Constructions costs for the SR 176 bridge rehabilitation project are estimated at $4 million. The construction contract will likely be awarded in January 2020.
