Armed Man Tries To Rob Lakewood High Schooler

The student refused to give the man any money, despite a handgun being pointed in their face.

LAKEWOOD, OH — An armed man tried to rob a Lakewood High School student Wednesday morning. The student, a 17-year-old, was walking on Ridgewood Avenue when a man with a gun ran toward them and demanded cash, a cell phone and headphones from the teenager.

The Lakewood High student refused to give the man anything. Apparently deterred, the man ran to a car on the street and drove off. The teenager was unharmed and nothing was taken.

The 17-year-old and their mother then went to Lakewood Police Department to report the incident.

Police say the suspect is a tall man, between 17 and 20 years old, weighing about 180 pounds. The suspect was wearing a bandana around his mouth and a black hooded sweatshirt.

A spokesperson with Lakewood Police told Patch the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact the Lakewood Police Department at 216-521-6773.

The Lakewood City School District sent out a notice on the incident to all parents on Tuesday. The notice was also posted to social media.

In the statement, the district said, "Students are reminded to be aware of their surroundings on the way to and from school and if at all possible to walk with someone."
