LAKEWOOD, OH — Over the past three months, the state has awarded $345,000 in grants to police departments around Ohio. The money is earmarked for the purchase of body armor vests for officers.

“Every department wants to have a vest for every officer, but the vests are not cheap and have to be replaced after a certain number of years,” Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said. “Helping to protect these officers is a meaningful way to thank them as they put themselves at risk for our sake each day.”

Since the beginning of the year, the state has awarded nearly $4 million in grants for body armor purchases. Lakewood Police Department received a body armor grant from the state in late April, to the tune of $25,000.
