First Graders Choose the Perfect Christmas Tree to Light Up LCA Campus
The Christmas tree outside Lakewood Catholic Academy was chosen by first graders during their annual tree farm visit. Each year, students select and bring the tree "home" in preparation for Christmas.
First grade students at Lakewood Catholic Academy were tasked with an important mission during a festive field trip to Wilcox Tree Farm in LaGrange – finding the school’s Christmas tree! Each year, students in the first grade have the job of choosing and delivering the Christmas tree that will be displayed in front of the school during the holidays.
Traditionally, students are accompanied by fathers, grandfathers or uncles who help to cut down the tree. Students learn about evergreen trees and the tree farm operation. They visit the tree lot and each student leaves a handwritten note in their favorite tree wishing the buyer a Merry Christmas.
First grade teacher Jennifer Komar said the trip is one that her students really look forward to. “The first graders are always so honored and proud to be responsible for bringing back the school's Christmas tree!” Komar said. The beautiful lit tree is now displayed in the courtyard of the Lakewood Catholic Academy campus at 14808 Lake Avenue.
